When it was founded, the Municipality of Škofljica had to choose an emblem – a coat of arms and flag. Because of the municipality’s unique marsh landscape and its role in settlement, trade and lifestyle, the municipal council chose the curlew as the symbol of the municipality.
On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Municipality of Škofljica, the Škofljica Old-timer Club erected a sculpture of a curlew in the park as a sign of gratitude for help provided by the municipality in organising the resounding notable vintage meetings in Škofljica.

It is believed ores were mined in the wider Pleše area as early as the Iron Age and during the Roman era. A metal plate dating to 1729 and which now resides in the National Museum of Slovenia testifies to mining in the area by the early 18th century.
V bližini je kamnolom z jezerom.
There is a quarry with a lake nearby.

Nekoč so sedanjo Lavrico sestavljali štirje zaselki oziroma vasi: Sela, Srednja vas in Daljna vas; na drugi strani Dolenjske ceste, na Barju, pa še zaselek Babna Gorica.
Življenje kraja in njegov razvoj je dodobra zaznamovala gradnja dvorazredne osnovne šole, gasilskega doma in športno-kulturnega doma.
